Peaceful

When life is wild with hurt, destruction, & calamity, there is a peace in the midst of it, if you choose it!

Ever wonder why some people can calmly sail through life, through the worst of storms, with the greatest of setbacks, and still remain calm in the midst of it?  You witness them in horrific situations and you say to yourself; "If that were me I wouldn't be able to cope".  They appear stronger than us.

Romans 5:3-4  "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

When you accept this peace, all hell can be breaking loose and you see it with different eyes.  You see child's play in the actions taken against you and sympathy for those who harmed you accidentally.  But the greatest gift given you is the ability to forgive those people unconditionally.  Also to assist those that feel they need justice and help them achieve it, not do it for them.

Who would have thought that all the sting in your problems could be wiped away by honestly and tearfully saying "Jesus, I accept you into my heart".

Discernment

Do you wonder about people sometimes?  Whether they are who they say they are, if they live the beliefs they spout, are they the first to admit their mistakes?  There's really no way of knowing these unless you spend time with God, when you do He gives you the ability to see these things; its called discernment.

People may wonder about us that way too!  Are we as good as we believe we are?  Do we have dirty little secrets? There's one sure way to find out!

John 3:20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

Discern for yourself; if you are doing evil because you think that way, then tell the devil to get away from you in the name of Jesus.  Do that every time you have a evil or heinous thought and watch your emotions come alive.

Forebearance

Ignorance is the cause of many peoples downfall.  Temptations come and they fall for it not knowing what can happen if they play along with that temptation.  Then when things go awry, they fall victim to a poor me attitude.  Most of the time it's not intentional, it's because they don't see a way out of their dilemma.  This is a prime example of how addictive behaviours start, you start using drugs, sex, alcohol, bullying, theft, bulimia, and the list goes on, to try to numb the pain of hopelessness because of your plight.

But the Bible is clear in the description of trouble and how to avoid it and get out of it.

1 Corinthians 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I guess the biggest learning curve to staying out of situations that drive you to compulsive and addictive behaviours would be to avoid the temptation all together.  It's called forbearance!

Confusion

What keeps us in addictive & compulsive behaviour?  As far as that goes; why do relationships go sideways?  When we hold on to ill feelings towards others we are prime for demons to keep us company.  When that happens we forego teachings in the Bible and live our life based on human emotion.  We expect the world to bow to our version of decency.

Psalms 7:14 "Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment."

Not having a clear understanding of what the Bible says, leaves us wide open for demonic interference!  People may brush that off thinking they can control that, but that's where the confusion comes in; it's then the story of the blind leading the blind in understanding.

It's satan's greatest trick because he allows us to believe we can do it because of our personal pride.

Opportunity

Sometimes we just don't realize what we have until it is gone.  Addictive and compulsive behaviours can keep us locked in a cycle of never looking up, always staring down at our hang-up of choice.  When we do that we miss everything that goes on around us.

What we don't realize is just how much control we have of everything, if we would only look away from our addiction and speak to God.  God created mankind and everything in the world and gave us complete control over it.

Psalm 8:6   "You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet"

It's hard for us to fathom when we think "little ole' me in charge of anything"; "I can't even control myself".  That's only because we focus all of our attention on ourself and the dismal life we lead, thinking we are hopeless.  Somehow that lie got into our head and has kept us where we are.

We think we are weak but we have the power to move mountains if we only believe enough!!

Reflection

Stored up anger, hurt, hatred, fear, lust, depression, and many other emotions show up in a silent language of the heart.  Try as you might to not show it, our inner thoughts leak out of us that others pick up on.  These emotions are reflected back to us in how others react to us.

Proverbs 27:19  As water reflects the face, so others reflect your heart back to you.

It's kind of cool when you think about it.  It's the Holy Spirit's way of telling us that we have a problem that we haven't dealt with just yet.  But why can't we just bury our problem and forget about it??  Because God has a Quality Control program that lights up everything that is dark, so when we are lit up by God's glory then the dark rot-spots within our lives show up.  The closer we get to the light the more glaring those dark spots are.  Imagine a clean white, well lit room with a tar spot on the wall.

As a light is a beacon in complete darkness, so a dark spot is the focus point in complete light.  This is a very good thing!!

Who Am I

Through time God speaks to us individually.  We may not believe it, hear it, or understand it, but if we had an inside view of what our life looks like to God, or even an outsiders view, then we could heal ourself from all emotional issues. Being healed from addictive and compulsive behaviours consists of nothing more than understanding what our problem is, who we are without the problem, and how to deal with the problem that never goes away.  We just need to learn how to control ourself around the problem.

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

Knowledge about these problems helps us to win over the problem.  We struggle without this knowledge but when we turn our life over to Christ a wonderful insight comes with it....knowing that we are a unique individual who simply has a problem and NOT a problem individual.

Believe it or not...that is the gift of Christmas!!  Covering up our problems causes us to try to diminish Christmas all together!!
