True faith is pure, it is innocent, and void of all forms of evil. Without tarnish, faith is the image of God! God doesn't look at the thing we prey after, He looks at the essence of our prayer. Is it pure or selfish.
When we have a faith that is heavily ladened with selfish greed or lust, then we have the ability to invent the voice we want to hear from God. We can do things that are questionable, thinking we are doing God's will, relying on selfish faith. We can pray for things that would destroy us over time, so God denies those prayers for our own good. All the while His soft still voice whispers in the background, while our invented voice blares on.
Prov 1:19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.
Comparing the voices we hear to the Bible helps us to listen to God's voice more.
