What's the Point in Trying

Words of a person who has tried to stop repeating the same negative behavior over and over again, but keeps failing.  It's when your girlfriend, husband, child, friend, or whoever finally says "I've had enough of you doing this, I'm leaving".  You've said to yourself 1000 times, "that's the last time I'm doing that, I quit", but you don't quit, because you can't do it on your own power.

This is the cycle of chronic addictive behaviors, compulsive disorders, and the subsequent destruction of perfectly good relationships.  So what's the common theme in all this?  It's the recipe of denial that anything is wrong.   It's the words "There's nothing wrong, I just can't stop, that's all".  It's all a lie that we tell ourselves and others, in order to cover up deep seated embarassing hurts from our past.

Self-Help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices provide a safe place where we can listen to others open up about their problems and we can watch them heal.  We can too, if we want to.  So . . . what about you?

A Dangerous Road

Like a 3rd century traveler who has never travelled a road before, we stumble through the darkness of life making choices as we run.  There are dangers, hazards, and culprits looking to use and rob us, but the worst of this is our freedom to make very poor choices based on bad information.  We spend years trapped in our own version of hell, never really knowing who we could be if we refused to hold onto our hurts from the past.  By doing this we bring out the worst in ourselves through obsessive and complusive behaviors.

The recipe of someone with an addiction of some sort; sex, eating disorders, alcohol, lying, theft, drugs, abuse, striving, self-mutilation, and the list goes on.  This is where self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices can help by providing a safe place to share your hurts, habits, & hang-ups with others who share your concerns.  There is help for everyone , , , but you must take the first step!!
