Gossip

Why do we gossip?  We feel the need for attention, no matter what kind it is.  Having someone listen to us is vital for our psyche. If we have someones attention even for a few minutes, then that's usually all we need.  This is when we let our guard down and throw all caution to the wind, sharing all kinds of private information (true or false). That's not for us to judge, its only for us to have something to share, so we can hear "ohh, really, ahh".  We think we've made a friend!!

It fills the lonely moments we experience on a daily basis. Gives us a reason to call others as we wouldn't have anything to say otherwise.  It sets our devious plans in motion. It makes us feel important and gives us something to do, as heinous as it may be.  The Bible doesn't paint a good picture of gossip.

2 Cor 12:20 . . . I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

Abandonment, pride, greed, and vengeance are the seeds that help us grow into gossips.  Salting the soil with forgiveness, peace, love, and contentment, removes us from that and sets us high above that dark need.
