Judgement

When we judge others, it's a signal that something inside of us is still rotting.  We're ignoring it or we've cleared away most of the visible debris in our emotional life. . . but we can't cover up the harsh cruel realities that we spew because of internal bitterness, unforgiveness, or rancid pride!

Judgement of others is a cover-up for us, to take the focus off of our own failings.  If we gossip about others weaknesses in order to feel accepted, hurl unfair judgements at them behind their back, shun them, or wince our eyes at them, without talking to them about it, then WE are the vessel of evil intentions, not them.

The enemy would like nothing more than to see a group of believers gnaw at each other, causing each other to fall from grace.

2 Timothy 2:25-26 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

The Bible also says that if we give the devil a foothold then he has the right to take control of our thinking.

Unclean

Recovery is an interesting process, mostly because we have a hard time believing we are forgiven.
To top it off we have a hard time ignoring what other believe about us, mostly because we tend to agree with them.  Getting over the ridge of unbelief in ourselves is the most difficult task in the process of healing.

Matthew 9 “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’

If the Bible says we are forgiven (when we are truly remorseful for our deeds) and God says we are forgiven (when we pray to him for forgiveness), then why would we doubt that it has happened? Probably because there wasn't a grandiose display of forgiveness, the same way there was an over the top reaction to our deeds.

Just a note to say that, "After confession, the voices of condemnation we hear are not from God".

Hurting

No one knows the amount of pain and anguish we are going through, the buried hurts, caustic feelings, and festering pride.  We keep it concealed quite well, but on occasion we slip and some of that poison comes oozing out when we least expect it.  We form axioms based on our own situation, therefore it must be true of other people.

Colossians 3:10 . . . put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

What we don't realize is that our axioms are simply unfair judgements of others.  They probably don't apply to others quite the same way they apply to us, but that's all we have to work with . . . unless we surrender that pain and pride to God.

Condemnation

We receive condemnation from others, whether we deserve it or not.   Their weaknesses in their life controls them to act that way.  If we are innocent then the only real damage is done to themselves.

We give condemnation to others with our own "vision of purity" in ourself.  We may be rotting on the inside but the judgements we hurl at others are, what we believe is a gift to the world.  If they are innocent then only real damage is done to ourself.

The only real way to avoid giving or receiving condemnation is through forgiveness.  We must forgive others for their transgressions against us, and we must forgive those who will not forgive us.

Matthew 12:7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.

Whoever is giving it, condemnation is a major sacrifice & forgiveness is just plain old mercy.  Kinda like what Christ did for us.

Reasons

True faith is pure, it is innocent, and void of all forms of evil.  Without tarnish, faith is the image of God!  God doesn't look at the thing we prey after, He looks at the essence of our prayer.  Is it pure or selfish.

When we have a faith that is heavily ladened with selfish greed or lust, then we have the ability to invent the voice we want to hear from God.  We can do things that are questionable, thinking we are doing God's will, relying on selfish faith.  We can pray for things that would destroy us over time, so God denies those prayers for our own good.  All the while His soft still voice whispers in the background, while our invented voice blares on.

Prov 1:19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.

Comparing the voices we hear to the Bible helps us to listen to God's voice more.

Critical

When people have an abundance of knowledge, sometimes it's hard to keep their pride out of the mix.  Imparting the wisdom that you've built up over your lifetime to others can make you condescending and rather obnoxious if pride is in the blend.  The problem is that when you finally find that out, then everyone who supported you is missing in your life because they can't stand the "me" demeanor.

Believe it or not, it's an addiction!  Instead of falling for drinking, drugs, or some other habit, we capitulate or give in to our own failings, believing they are correct. . . . so that MUST make ME correct!  The point of enlightenment is when we realize our wrongs and finally understand how they effect people.  Basically we stop being critical and start noticing other peoples feelings!!

Prov 18:12  Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Reliance

When we rely on our own understanding, we make the assumption that we are correct in our thinking. The problem is we are absolutely right!

Henry Ford said: Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.

If we are able to justify our thinking over addictive behaviors, then in our mind, we have convinced ourself to be right.  Or maybe society has taught us a way that is only questionable after we get in trouble and find out the hard way that it is wrong.

The Pharaoh of Egypt told Moses:  “The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong".

To prevent falling into the trap of relying on our biased wrongful thinking, we should study the Bible, as it is full of correct ways to think.  Its also full of horrors stories of ways to NOT think!!  God doesn't like deceivers, and that's exactly what we are doing to our self and others!!
