Success v/s Failure

The Bible says to be content where you are and a level of success will meet you.  It probably won't be what the world thinks it is, but something far richer and more fulfilling.  However our focus remains on the worldly view, so it's hard to imagine something you've never seen before.  It's equally as hard to recognize something that you can't even imagine!

So changing directions or methods is still progressing, just not in the way we started.

Failure comes when our focus is on the goal and not the journey, on the prize and not on the sheer enjoyment of it.  Seeking a life with Christ is all about the journey and the sheer joy of it.

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices teach us that there can be joy in amidst the dark times in our recovery.  We just need to focus on the joy.

ME

Such a small word with huge implications!  So many battles have started because of it.  It's a view of things and people as being subject to us or objects below ourself. Our beliefs, feelings, and emotions are what drive it.

But what is it all about?  The core elements are power, greed, fear, & pride.  These cause us to act out in bizarre & selfish ways, disregarding everyone, but these are only symptoms of a bigger problem.

The layer under those symptoms that we were victim to are things like verbal, emotional & sexual abuse, abandonement, and having people who are a bad influence in our life.

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices help us to dig deep into our emotional life to acknowledge & heal these broken areas deep within us.

Gang Mentality

When someone says something against us, our natural instinct is to lash back for the injury.  But we respond in non-Biblical ways by telling others, and trying to win people over to our side to prove we are better than that, and make a liar out of the person who said it.  "Gang mentality". Yes it is quite a game!

The problem is we can't differentiate whether it is cruel or simply an observation, or an opportunity for us to grow.  We still take it personaly.  If only we could see God's voice in constructive criticism and less of "I'm hurt and I"m right", then our own personal world would be a far more peaceful place.

The Bible says to go speak to that person and tell them about the injustice, and to only tell others when they refuse to speak to you about your grievance with them.  But courage is a topic for another day.

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices teach us new ways to respond and courageous loving ways to speak to people instead of manipulation and brawn.

Lust

It's mostly associated with sex, isn't it.  Money means the same thing to both rich and poor, they can never get enough!  But the Bible is very clear that "the lust of the spirit" is the cause of our downfall.  Lusting after sex, money, power, sloth, people, things, and ideologies.  These are the things that pull us away from God.  You see, if you put your own ideals in our agape love towards God, then it transforms into lust after things.

The whole purpose of life on Earth is to teach us that "lust after stuff is temporarily rewarding", but agape love towards God means "internal peace forever", never having to worry because you know that God has your back!!!  Unpleasant things may happen but with a belief in God, all things correct themselves.  . . . But we must choose God.

Self-Help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices show us the difference between lust and "Agape Love".

Visuals

Imagine if every word we said turned into large block letters over our head for the whole world to see.  Or if our concealed emotions did the same!  How on earth would we be able to even think?

Every cursed word, slanderous thought, mean action, every lie, deception, scowl, and grumble fully visible above our head.  Ill thoughts about people we don't have courage to say anything to, disrespectful treatment of the poor, harsh treatment of the disabled, even snarky comments to innocent passersby.

We may not be able to see those things right now but we certainly do wear those emotions on our faces and in our actions. It would either help us to be more honest or incredibly more crafty.

Proverbs 3:27 "Do not withhold good from those who need it, when you have the ability to help".

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices allows us to see images of ourself that we would normally not see on our own, which helps us to change for the better.

Avoidance

It's a behavior that is clinically catalogued.  They say it is running away from our problems, skirting the inevitable, pretending a problem is not really there.    Never speaking of what we think of as taboo topics.  Not dealing with our problems.  What causes that is fear mostly. That's the earthly interpretation.

But theres another avoidance and that is staying away from what you know is bad for you, evil things in your life, places and people who can trip you up, activities that can alter your sound thinking.  If you have a desire to live a Godly life then avoidance of these things is most important, because our lives depend on our sound judgement of these things.

Proverbs 4:27 "Don’t deviate a bit to the right or the left; turn your feet away from evil." CEB

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices give us concrete reasons to stop looking at and seeking evil things.

Rich or Poor

Our view of things is always right, its the opposing individuals that are in conflict with us, complicating the fact that whether we are rich or poor emotionally, spiritually, or financially.  The rich find groups that meet their needs and the poor find groups that meet their needs, problem being they are always the same as us. No growth and no change.

We always look in the same places for the same things and rarely find it.  We need to look in new places for different things than we are used to and we are guaranteed to find something.  A person in their own state of poor needs to change one thing, to reach out and empathize with others less fortunate.  Rich or poor, each have their own challenges that are tough to break out of.

Self-Help Groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices open our eyes to the "wise ways of Bible teaching",  Proverbs 21:11..."by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge".
Look for somebody who is wise and then emulate them and you will become rich in spirit.
