When someone says something against us, our natural instinct is to lash back for the injury. But we respond in non-Biblical ways by telling others, and trying to win people over to our side to prove we are better than that, and make a liar out of the person who said it. "Gang mentality". Yes it is quite a game!
The problem is we can't differentiate whether it is cruel or simply an observation, or an opportunity for us to grow. We still take it personaly. If only we could see God's voice in constructive criticism and less of "I'm hurt and I"m right", then our own personal world would be a far more peaceful place.
The Bible says to go speak to that person and tell them about the injustice, and to only tell others when they refuse to speak to you about your grievance with them. But courage is a topic for another day.
Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices teach us new ways to respond and courageous loving ways to speak to people instead of manipulation and brawn.
