Who Am I

Through time God speaks to us individually.  We may not believe it, hear it, or understand it, but if we had an inside view of what our life looks like to God, or even an outsiders view, then we could heal ourself from all emotional issues. Being healed from addictive and compulsive behaviours consists of nothing more than understanding what our problem is, who we are without the problem, and how to deal with the problem that never goes away.  We just need to learn how to control ourself around the problem.

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

Knowledge about these problems helps us to win over the problem.  We struggle without this knowledge but when we turn our life over to Christ a wonderful insight comes with it....knowing that we are a unique individual who simply has a problem and NOT a problem individual.

Believe it or not...that is the gift of Christmas!!  Covering up our problems causes us to try to diminish Christmas all together!!

Behaviour

Life is full of problems, we know that because we have them!  Life is full of blessings too, we know that because we see others get them!  However, what we don't see is our own reactions to problems.  I doubt you will see someone clapping and cheering when they receive horrible news.  The point is, problems are simply a way for us to build up our personality so that we can handle bigger problems in the future.  But what's the point of that?

Do you have someone you admire because of the way they handle disappointing news?  We have problems in our life to strengthen us and show us what we need to do next.  When you don't understand that, then addictive and compulsive behaviours can creep in and freeze us where we are, so no growth is possible.

Proverbs 30:3  "I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One."

Learning from our mistakes is what God planned for us to do.  When you don't know that then defeat and failure seem like its your destiny in life.  But its not, you can be what ever you choose to be.

Self Deception

In the midst of every act of disobedience we commit, there is a small but tiny catch that holds us accountable for our actions.  We act out our compulsive or addictive behaviours only after we have decided to do so.  Every time, we are reminded in our conscience that what we are doing is wrong, but we choose to gloss over that small voice that is trying to guide us in the right direction.  The damage done to us in our life tricks us into thinking that the enjoyment of the moment is a far better thing than security in the long run.  That's the basis of an addiction or compulsive behaviour.

Hebrews 8:10 "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.

We know this verse is true!!  Its hard to admit that we don't first think about the things we do wrong and do them anyway.  The problem is, after a while of refusing to listen to the voice it eventually goes away.  Leaving us thinking that what we are doing is alright....but deep down we know better.

That voice is not our imagination, its the essence of God trying to protect us.

Tares

When we try to live a life free from addictive and compulsive behaviours, satan sends people disguised as righteous people. These are known as Tares in the Bible. "Weeds" that try to confound the truth, create discouragement, and build divisiveness, all in an effort to make us fall. These false profits only aim is the failure of God's chosen, to get you to lose faith!!  Half the time they dont even know they are doing it, thinking they are doing God's will.

You see, they live by the law, and if satan can get you to live by the law then you will have little faith.  Jesus said; "you can't serve two masters", while that verse refers to money, this also applies to everything in life.

Romans 7:6  But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

If we have faith first, then we will want to live according to the law.  By living and teaching according to the law, it's impossible to please God, because you have no faith.  Faith is given to us, while the law forces us to build a so-called faith!

Ownership

I heard a TV evangelist saying that praying for something will only set the stage to receiving it.  The next part is that you have to go get it.  The world has a "Poor Me" attitude, thinking that all we have to do is pray our life away and not do anything to improve it, but simply sit back and receive it.  Nothing could be further from the truth...unless God truly wants to bless you for some reason.

Jesus said in John 14:12, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."

Taking ownership of the things you hope for doesn't mean go out and steal them, that's not what Jesus did!  He tells us that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed that we can move mountains, in other words we need to put some effort into it.

Giving Up

Can mean a lot of things! Giving up on your dreams, people, your diet, hobbies, etc.  But it can also mean that you are giving up on life...or even God!  Getting to that point a sense of hopelessness can begin to take hold.  When you have no hope addiction can set in.  We can lower our standards, be easily led into debaucherous and heinous lifestyles.  We can be led away from anything safe and put ourselves on the edge.....

2 Chronicles 15:7, "But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

Every single thing we do to help others in the name of God, we will be rewarded; the Bible says 10 times, 50 times, 100 times more.  The key is putting others first and by doing that we don't have time to focus on our hopelessness.

Negativity

Its so easy to see ourself as the standard of excellence.  Finding the middle ground of acceptable behaviour sometimes takes a lifetime of trial and error. The easiest action to fall into is negativity. It's either learned behaviour or we just don't see the blessings in any situation.  We can't see past our own life and pain.  Negativity is an addiction!! A very lonely dark place to exist, and nobody wants to be around you.

1Peter 3:9  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

I believe the Old Testament says it this way: "an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth".  Or the 21st century version: "Pay it forward".  In other words we will receive what we give. If we bless others instead of cursing, then it will come back around to us as a blessing when we least expect it.

Negativity keeps us trapped in a cycle of spewing our hidden pain on others, without revealing the real problem!!  So yes, negativity is a very real addiction.

Weary

We can become weary when we don't see results from what we are seeking.  If we only have a mediocre faith then time has a way of loosening our grasp on things.  When you believe in something strong enough then time doesn't matter.

There are times when we don't see the saving grace of Christ.  When we don't know its there, when we believe we are unworthy of it, or when we don't know that we can grab hold of it for ourselves.  God's grace is always there, but its up to us to take hold of it.  If our thinking has been jaded by some twisted doctrine, or others beating us down, then we can alienate ourself.  Addiction is like that!

When we study the Word of God time doesn't matter, because we know that in the end we will receive what we put into it, & if we focus on God then the addiction doesn't matter. Because you're reading this then the following verse applies to you:

Ephesians 1:11  "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,"

So our options are simple: seek God with all your heart & He will give you the desires of your heart, or keep doing what you're doing.

Building Up

Its hard to find people that will actually spend the time to build you up.  Family and friends are one thing if you're lucky enough to have those types of people in your life, but in the outside world of our job, business, passersby, political, and world events it's very different.  Just look at the state of wars around the world, genocide, and general aggression.  Some people try to blame it on religion but its not that, its a natural state of decay from the beginnings of mankind.

I guess that's why people look down on Christianity because at its core the difference is staggering from the way the world thinks.

Ephesians 4:29  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

For thousands of years its been "Only one of us will be victorious".  But why??  The process of surrendering ourself to an unseen God goes against all military common sense.  The problem is; trying to get the whole world to think like that, when we've been trained to destroy.

Cowering

When we are unsure of ourself, we lack confidence and are fearful of failure or blame.  It's a crippling way of life!!  It's like we are frozen in time when occurrences happen around us.  We cringe and have to make a hasty retreat.

In this state of mind it happens to be a very good way to pick up an addiction.  We just can't cope with what we see as the frightening reality of life, so we tend to drink, medicate, or turn to habits , or relationships that are just not good for us, one's that get us in trouble.  We can be complacent when all hell is breaking loose around us, which deepens our plight.  We are focusing on foolishness when our thoughts should be on God himself;

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,  and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

If all you would do is focus on God, then how would you have any time to focus on your fears.  Besides 90% of all fears we have, never happen, but 100% of what we do for God is remembered for later!!

Idols

There'll come a time when the things you seek after in life will become permanent in your life.  We chase after objects, money, feelings, people, and beliefs all our lives and struggle to get them.  These are our idols, our gods.  The same ones God talks about when he says in Exodus 20, in the 1st commandment; "You shall have no other Gods before me".  So what does that really mean?

On your death bed or when Jesus returns, what ever you put your heart into, seeking after, you will finally get in full measure.  You won't have to seek after it any longer, because it will be yours forever.  If you seek after God then you will be with Him.  If you seek after some earthly thing, then that will be your god and you will stay on earth with it.

Before it becomes permanent, its time to decide who you will follow; our savior Jesus Christ, or some earthly thing that will cause you to miss your opportunity of going to Heaven.

Insincerity

When we are insincere we don't care about others feelings or others beliefs, desires, or requests, it simply means we are being selfish.  We can't say that we didn't know because that would be simple ignorance to the fact.  The true insincerity come when we tell ourself and others that we didn't know, but deep down we know fully well and are lying to ourself in order to cover the incongruency.

So insincerity is really a different problem than what we think it is.  It's a problem with our greed for self gratification.   A way for us to feel good at the expense of others and not owning up to the fact that we made a mistake.  Most addicts believe they don't have a problem, so it must someone else's fault.

This is a trademark of a life with an addiction, no ownership for our actions, and no belief in ourself.

Endurance

It sometimes seems as though there is no relief from our past, no way to repair the damage we have done to ourselves and others.  Or maybe you have been the victim of abuse and can find no peace.  This is the time when faith in God is our only recourse, the only way we can find peace from the guilt, shame, isolation, and condemnation.

It's good to know just how patient God really is:

1 Peter 3:19, After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.  In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.  It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ...

It's good to know that there is a way to calm our conscience and become an upstanding member of society free from guilt, addiction and destructive behaviors.   It builds endurance in our thinking when we resist the temptations to isolate, use, commit crime, or abuse.

All these blessings are available to us but the choice always remains in our hands.

Complications

There's an old saying that if things are progressing with no problems, then you have forgotten to address something.  Staying focused allows us to pick up on the details in anything we are doing.  When we allow other things to consume our thoughts that don't pertain to the task at hand, then we start overlooking details.  The more we press in to a task the greater the reward.

Our relationship with God is no different!  The more time we spend seeking Him, and the less time we spend on distractions, then the greater the reward.  But let me rephrase that: "The more time we spend avoiding distractions, the greater the focus is on God."

2 Chronicles 16:9  For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

Strengthening our connection with God by reducing distractions doesn't reduce complications, but makes our reaction to the complications a "reward for sacrifice".

Testing

Testing is a way to insure that what people say about themselves is accurate.  The Bible tells us to bring everything to God in prayer and to test it.  So if God tells us to do that, then He would do it himself.

Those times when it seems like God is not there, when you feel you are praying into an empty void, when your prayers go unanswered, and when things go on around you that you can't understand, God maybe wants to see which side you will choose.  Will you turn to God, or to a fear ridden, self serving, bitter, prideful, and envious person.

2 Chronicles 32:31 . . . . God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

Stumbling is us simply trying to walk on our own.  Its not a bad thing because you learn what's truly in your heart and where not to go, but it still hurts.

When we actually walk the talk it proves 2 things, that we are what we say we are, and that we are not swayed by the trappings of this world.

Religious

Setting a standard for others, but exempting our self when we in a different crowd.  In the Bible it's called hypocrisy!  When we are very religious when around the religious crowd but our real self when around the one's we don't go to church with.  Think back to when you lied to your parent or guardian thinking that you convinced them you weren't bad in a certain situation.  When you put on a glossier than real attitude around someone in authority.  When you swear, think poorly of someone, gossip, or verbally cheat someone.  Abuse others!!  Our tongue is a deadly weapon.

James 1:26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

This verse scared me when I first read it, or maybe it was the 5th time and it finally sunk in.  I believe God will ask us to clarify each and every instance of deception in our life.  So doing what this verse says right now will reduce the surprise we will have later.  And we won't wind up using our tongue as a weapon on our self!!

Blindness

Being physically blind causes your other senses to become acute, according to someone without sight.  Your hearing, smell, & touch, fill your mind with images of what's happening around you, because what you would see is not there to color the events.  It allows us to deepen our understanding of situations, because its not what we see that creates the connection with God but rather what we say and do.  The goodness or badness leaks out of our actions and speech.

Religion is like that too!  Where our visual interpretations are not there to help us to build a solid understanding of what we want to believe in.  It's like we are blind to the events and must rely on our others senses in order to sharpen our understanding.  It's called Faith!!

Ephesians 1:18  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,

Realization

There's a point in a persons life when you say enough to bad behaviour and poor choices.  When that chronic hangup, habit or addiction isn't as important as the life you want to live.   The process can be long & arduous, but the benefits far outweigh the momentary pleasure-turned-problem way of life.

Job 34:31-32 “Suppose someone says to God, ‘I am guilty but will offend no more.  32 Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.’

There's a finality in those words that gives a person comfort, knowing that you are choosing the new way instead of the old way.  Growth instead of a deprived spirit.  Richness instead of loss.  If others can't share that joy that you feel, it's because they don't know the depth you've been to.  That's where a testimony comes in to seal the deal.

Besides they may be jealous of your transparency regarding your problems, something they can't do with their own hangups. So continue to be a leader in everything you do & it will all work out!!

Encouragement

Most of us don't receive that, some have never experienced it, and a multitude believe there is an ulterior motive behind it when we hear it.

There are 2 kinds; genuine & false encouragement.  Tricks, lies, criticism, pride, revenge, and gaining the upper hand are usually the motives behind false encouragement.  But not everyone is like that!  There is a group in society that live according to the Bible's teachings and encourage those who are having a tough time with life's demands.  Getting those to believe that someone actually cares about them is another thing.  We usually don't believe it because we are frequently stung by it.  This creates feelings of hopelessness, an entry point for an addiction.

Hebrews 3:13 "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness".

False encouragement is just deceit and the basis of greed.  Genuine encouragement is the basis of giving with nothing expected in return.

Quarrels

Conflict is costly!  Sun Tzu, a 4th century B.C. warrior turned philosopher could not understand why people fight.  He tells us to "avoid conflict even if it creates problems for you".

Today's world sets us up for constant conflict, over busy, fast paced lives, stretch us to the point of breaking.  But the first thing to break most times is our faith that God is in control. All that does is open us up to more things to draw us away from God.  We can become bitter and resentful, and feel we need to defend our self at all costs.  After all, who else will?  We separate and turn to things that control us, not the other way around.  We become more angry.  Is it any wonder why people stop going to church?

1 Timothy 2:24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

Don't read this wrong, church will not save you, but rather your understanding that you can't do it all on your own, will!!  Releasing all these things to Jesus is the only thing that will allow your mind to truly find rest.  That's the reason you should go to church, to find the peace so you can choose to not quarrel.  Besides, Sun Tzu says that problems are just opportunities.

False Religion

When we don't know about religious doctrines and groups that are presented to us.  If we don't study religions to find the truth and not just settle for the first group that comes along, then we are opening ourselves  up to blindly following something that may be our demise in the end.  Countless millions have done that before us and fell victim to dictators, lust, greed, and dissension.  The Bible tells us to study the Word of God and to not stop.  Religion of today is changing into what we "think and like", and paying no attention to accepting Jesus as our Savior. This opens us up to worshiping the body, plants, stars, people, objects, money, and psychological belief systems.

Colossians 2:23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Sensuality has the largest group of followers today, but what people don't understand is that if you don't forget about the world's trappings right now and instead get to know Jesus today, then how will He recognize you when He returns to collect all those who believe in Him?  That's really the only reason Jesus is returning!

Oppression

Sometimes we feel oppressed from many angles. It feels that the world is against us, that people are ganging up on us and we are trying our best to be good and respectable.  Might even feel as if God is responsible for all this, and we start blaming Him.  When times get tough, its easy to give up and fall back into the way things were, the easy way out.

1 Peter 3:17 "For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil".

Viewing all this trouble may seem like the journey isn't worth the work.  It's like a savings account, the more you resist, the better it will be for you in the long run.  But make sure you are not living with the mindset that you deserve any of this.  The closer we get to God, the more the evil one hates it!  Be very, very happy then for every instance that oppression happens.

Lol cool!!

Promises

Uttering words as a promise to others when we need something at the time, can be a trap that we set for our self down the road.  Making promises at the time can seem a simple task, but it's usually only at the time you make the promise.  Fulfilling that promise later on can turn into a magnanimous project.  All because we couldn't say a simple "yes or no" puts us in a sometimes very precarious position.

James 5:17 "Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned".

Compulsive and addictive behaviors only worsen situations, because the only focus is on the prize at the time and no regard given to paying back that promise.  The promise made is usually forgotten and becomes a big surprise down the road when we are reminded of our responsibility.

It really only boils down to us being honest with our self and others at the time, then no false promises are made or forgotten.  If you're unsure about paying back after making the promise, then you should avoid that trap to begin with.

Two Kinds of Wisdom

We each like to think we are wise, but our actions label us whether we like it or not.  How we speak, react, and especially the next step we take in the midst of trouble.  Some are relaxed and content with their life state and can easily handle the ups and downs of life.  Others carry deep envy, unresolved strife, chaotic perspectives, and cannot forgive.

The second kind of wisdom says that no matter what life has for us, we are content with the outcome, because we give it all to Jesus Christ for Him to sort out for us.  Praise God for the blessings, and ask Him for peace to deal with the not-so-desirable aspects.  More importantly, what can we learn from this?
James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Focusing on all those positives doesn't give you much time to deal with the negatives, because if you give them to Jesus, then there's not too much to worry about.

Fighting

Ever find yourself in the middle of a battle you didn't start?  Minding your own business and living a life according to the ways of Christ, suddenly you are in the midst of a controversy and you have no idea how it started.  That is the way of the enemy, silent sneak attacks, skullduggery at it's best.

2 Corinthians 10:3 "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does."

The thing to remember is that this is an attack against God. because we are living at peace with God angers the enemy.  The Bible instructs us to keep the peace, stand firm, keep your focus on God, and He will make it right.

But when you have a compulsive or addictive behavior it's even more difficult, but the principal is exactly the same. Stay calm and rest in the Lord to correct all things.  When you take matters into your own hands then you start playing satan's game, and then he wins.

Control

There's lots of elements to control.  Controlling others, being controlled, being out of control, allowing others to control us, and interestingly, controlling others by accident.  May seem strange but when we are ignorant to our own behaviors, we can actually be controlling others with out knowing it.  Not knowing life skills or unresolved childhood issues can open us up to a wide variety of obnoxious behaviours.  We think we are in control, but in all actuality we are overbearing, insensitive, pushy, and short sighted.  When we realize this, it is never too late to admit our mistakes.

1 Peter 3:16 "keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."

A relationship with Jesus Christ opens our eyes and gives us a view from the people we have controlled by accident.

Acceptance

What do we do in order to feel accepted?  First off, what is acceptance and why do we need it?  It's when someone gives you the same level of respect they would give to anyone else, no matter what you have done, your station in life, or what you look like.  It's a show of respect to treat others as you would like to be treated.

Coincidentally, that is what the Bible teaches in Luke 6:31 Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

When you don't treat others as you would like to be treated, then you are judging them and God says that you will be judged in the same way you treat others.  It's mostly because we don't understand that persons way of thinking and our arrogance or uncaring spirit is preventing us from NOT forcing them to our way of thinking.

Harbinger

Is a person who runs ahead of the crowd to be the first person to announce the coming of something.  They were required to recite only the facts and not put emotion or bias into it. Ancient version of the media.  People pronounce it har binger, but it's har bin jer.

It's hard not to show bias especially when you are passionate about something.  And, if our mindset is damaged by unresolved emotions or hurt, then the message we portray comes out with a negative slant.  The closer the information comes to our point of pain, then the caustic side comes out more. We should be bringing good news but it's tainted with our dark emotions.

1 John 4:6 ....This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

The most difficult aspect, is recognizing those dark emotions and negative biases in ourself.

Easy Way Out

As water runs downhill filling the holes and low spots, so does the carnal human spirit.  We fall victim to carnal emotions, habits, and beliefs.  It takes great effort to rise above mediocrity, to try to make yourself better, but sometimes we are unaware of the option to do that, so we stay in the filth and mire that life has dealt us.  All the while believing that is our lot in life.

Other times, the better you try to make yourself, the more the enemy tries to quash you, to keep you from being a positive example to others.  The easy way out is avoiding that affliction and turning back to the evil that you tried to leave.

Job 36:20 Beware of turning to evil, which you seem to prefer to affliction.

The older you get, the more you realize that you could have done it!!

Laws of God

A lot of people hate or mock the 10 Commandments in the Bible, because it forces them to give up some of their fun.  They don't realize what they represent.  If there were no commandments then no one would know they are doing wrong.  If you were screwing up royally and about to get in trouble, would you appreciate someone telling you that you were making a mistake, so you could correct your error?  But...people don't like to hear they are wrong, but they do like it when you join them and give up your morals.

Job 34:32 "Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again."

Addictive and compulsive behaviors have another layer to that, we need peoples acceptance more than  following God's word, and that's where the disconnect is.  We try to repair the damage with substances and misdeeds instead of seeing the real problem.

Grace

Grace is the act of releasing someone from judgement.  It's the motion of turning the other cheek, forgiving those that have hurt us, and giving others a another chance.  When we don't do any of those things then that person is held in bondage.  Jesus said in Matthew 18:18, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven". What that means is how we judge others, the same judgement will be used on us.

The judgements and stumbling blocks we create for others will undoubtedly come back to haunt us based on the above statement.

Romans 14:13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

 Isn't life difficult enough?

Trapped

An addiction is anything more than drugs and alcohol. Those are just symptoms of a much greater concern.  First off, you are trapped in a line of thinking that keeps you from realizing that you are ultimately in full control of your life. Secondly, you are blinded from seeing the potential in yourself. And thirdly, you are tricked into believing that there is nothing better than what you are trapped in.

But there is a fourth aspect to any addiction, that is the sin we are committing against God.  You see every addiction is the result of a battle of "Spirits & Principalities".  We are only pawns being used to get to God. It's really not our fight but we let be ours and take it very personally.  We can trap our self or be trapped by other people who do NOT have our best interests at heart.

1 Kings 8:50 And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their captors to show them mercy;

Once we realize that we are being used by the evil one, then that addiction becomes a stupid waste of time and we are no longer trapped.

Shame

If we only knew what we were doing every time we commit a sin.  If we could only understand that the things we do in the midst of an addiction, we will have to deal with at a later date. First it's stubbornness or total indifference, but later in life it is shame and regret.  If only we could turn back the hands of time and not do the things we now find shameful and regretful.

Romans 6:21, What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

For every action there is a reaction.  This is true in physics as well as social settings, and is sooo true with the Laws of God that we break when we are young and then find we have to clean up after ourself later in life.

Everyone receives advice, but few profit from it, and the Bible is full of valuable advice.

Transparency

Sometimes it means we are so unimportant that it makes us feel like people see through us to the more interesting & important things we are blocking from their view.

Sometimes its a slam against us with the accusation that we have no substance or realism to us or that we are worthless.

Sometimes it means that we are too open and too honest that we tell everything and neglect to protect ourself.

But you know, when you take the focus off our yourself and genuinely look for interesting things in others (no matter who they are), then being transparent on purpose really is rewarding, especially when you get to see them lite up because of your interest in them.

Prov 31:9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

You never know who is "Poor in spirit & needing affirmation".

Wronged

When we are wronged we can feel it to the core of our being with great emotional and psychological pain.  A turmoil of undisturbed emotions can erupt if we haven't dealt with them. Complacency and denial can help us cover over those painful happenings, unfortunately that usually opens us up to addiction.

Numbers 5-6; “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord is guilty and must confess the sin they have committed.

The Bible is quite clear when is says that we are to deal with our junk.  We're supposed to take ownership for our own and hold others accountable for theirs.  It's interesting that it says "unfaithful to the Lord".  I guess that just confirms that whatever we do to others, we are also doing it to our maker.  Oops!!

As we are able to read this, it means that we still have time to deal with our junk!!

False Teacher

Addictive behaviour always gives away a persons deepest desires!  Sometimes people claim to be Christian but the debris they hang onto pollutes whatever they try to convey.  Their mouth says one thing, but their actions scream "compulsive disorder".  You usually can't tell them anything to try to correct them, you will only be hated for it.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to wait it out.

Prov 14:29 - Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Some however will thank you for your correction.  These are the ones who are finished with pride & self-preservation.  They have given their life to Christ and those things no longer control them.  That's how you tell one from the other.  Without knowing it, they have become a false teacher!!

Speaking

When we cannot speak honestly to others, when we have to orchestrate scenarios for others because we don't have the courage to talk to them directly, we open ourself to demonic possession. A Christian cannot be possessed unless there is an element for a demon to hang onto; pride, greed, unforgiveness, fear, the law, judgement, etc.

When a person is controlled by an evil spirit they display unusual behaviours that cause them to act out in selfish, condescending ways. There is no equilibrium in their thinking, they swing completely outward attacking others and on the defensive, or completely inward with self condemnation, avoidance, and defeat.

Leviticus 19:18  “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord".

If we do that, then our focus is on the Lord's will and not centered on our self.  Then satan is helpless and defeated.

Waiting

There's nothing more aggravating than waiting for something.  Waiting seems to be a cornerstone of our life here on earth. Very, very things come instantly, and if they do they are usually not what we expected in the long run.  Unless they are a gift from God; to which we have prayed for, or God has purposes more in line to touch someone else that we can't see.

There's also a bad time to wait too long, when you need to decide something that could be life-saving, like our life after death.  Do you know where you are going after you die?  Are you still sitting on the fence waiting for more information? There's a story in Matthew 25 that tells about 10 maidens waiting to meet the Bridegroom, 5 were wise and filled their lamps with oil and 5 were foolish and waited too long to get oil for their lamps.  Only the 5 wise prepared ones were allowed in.

Luke 17:24 tells us how Jesus returns; "As the lightning flashes across the sky and lights it up from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day".

There will be lots of Joy and Sorrow on that day and we have the option to choose which one right now!!

Time

It's a hindrance when you can't wait, it's precious when you want more, an annoyance when you're in trouble, and a blessing when you're on top of the world.  Time never changes speed, I mean it's consistently accurate and methodically precise.

When you finally realize how much time you've wasted on addictive behaviours, you're heart broken.  Just when you get your act together you have the opportunity to look back at a path of destruction in your life.  We feel bad but maybe we shouldn't.

Job 35:8 "Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself, & your righteousness only other people."

You've learned valuable lessons in life, some things that others can never realize on their own. Once you understand that with every hurt God can put to good use in shaping others. By knowing this we can finally see victory in the troubled areas in our thinking.

Guiltless

If we don't know that anything we are doing is wrong then we are guilt free.  Being held accountable of something that we didn't know was wrong seems unjust and unfair.  But just because we didn't know at the time doesn't mean it isn't wrong in the eyes of others.

John 9:41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains."

God shows us what we have done in the past and allows us to decide for ourself if our actions are acceptable in the eyes of God, or not.  God doesn't punish us but allows the results of our actions to govern us individually. Negative people will feed off of our bad behavior & positive people will feed off of our positive behavior.

Everything we do, God gives us the freedom and opportunity to choose wisely or poorly.

Offensive

Most people don't like hearing the truth because it means we have to change or at least accept failure in some sort of way.  Change and failure are just ways for us to grow in the future.  It may not help us right now though, first we have to get over the initial shock and guilt.

What we shouldn't do is take offense to those that are providing an alternate look at things.  God is correcting us and also provides a way out of our situation, but we usually don't see it until after.

Galatians 4:16, "Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?"

It's easy to take offense in situations because things don't go the way we planned.  God will judge the truth in everything when the time comes, so we can wait on that truth.  Right now all we can do is our best to stay truthful.

Email Problems

Anger

Anger is not wrong, nor is it looked down on in the Bible.  If you read the Bible you will see that God gets angry.  We see earthlings get angry and that reveals the worst side of people. If we don't have a healthy mental balance then our anger turns into revenge, spite, hatred, rage, name calling, malice, viciousness, slander, abuse, and scheming. Totally self-centered!

Eph 4:26, "In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

All anger is or should be is a way to reveal your inner passions.  To let people know that they have reached your boundary of what you are comfortable with.  Problem is, we don't know how to stop there.  We let other things control our anger; if we don't get our way, if you're making me work when I don't want to, you won't love me, I want that, I'm too stressed, I'm unable to talk to people, I'm tired, etc.

So in order to be angry in a fair way, we need to not be afraid, selfish, or avoid the truth, but rather pull our own weight. Sharing the truth should make us feel better, just as anger relieves the pressure.

The Law

I hear people talking about injustice all the time!  The Lord Jesus experienced injustice daily and had the ability to snap His fingers and correct every injustice in the world, but He didn't! Why??

The Bible talks about a woman incessantly petitioning a judge about injustice in: Luke 18:8 "I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?"

What we don't see is God's plan to work through us in order to get others to see the error of their own ways.  If everyone is beaten into correction, then the LAW rules, and there's no room for faith.  If people must be abused, shamed, demoralized, and shunned because of their personal sins, then grace is not needed.

So if the world is ruled by the law when Jesus returns, then who will Jesus take with Him to Heaven?  Maybe the law helps us take the focus off of our self.  Singer David Crowder said it best; "Afflictions eclipsed by glory".

Freedom

We don't really realize just what our unbridled opinions and actions can do!!  If we don't care about anyone else then we will do only what is good for us, never pondering our actions.  The world tells us that "if it feels good then do it". The Bible tells us to not live selfishly, to put others first, and to be a good example to others.  The biggest problem is that we don't see what we done until someone else repeats it.  Even then it's hard to imagine that we have that kind of power.  The Bible says:

Job 35:8 Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself, and your righteousness only other people.

Someone is emulating someone else every second on this earth, be it good or bad!  What are we going to say when we are standing in front of God trying to come up with an excuse for our actions that lead soooo many people to a life of sin?
