Cowering

When we are unsure of ourself, we lack confidence and are fearful of failure or blame.  It's a crippling way of life!!  It's like we are frozen in time when occurrences happen around us.  We cringe and have to make a hasty retreat.

In this state of mind it happens to be a very good way to pick up an addiction.  We just can't cope with what we see as the frightening reality of life, so we tend to drink, medicate, or turn to habits , or relationships that are just not good for us, one's that get us in trouble.  We can be complacent when all hell is breaking loose around us, which deepens our plight.  We are focusing on foolishness when our thoughts should be on God himself;

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,  and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

If all you would do is focus on God, then how would you have any time to focus on your fears.  Besides 90% of all fears we have, never happen, but 100% of what we do for God is remembered for later!!

Idols

There'll come a time when the things you seek after in life will become permanent in your life.  We chase after objects, money, feelings, people, and beliefs all our lives and struggle to get them.  These are our idols, our gods.  The same ones God talks about when he says in Exodus 20, in the 1st commandment; "You shall have no other Gods before me".  So what does that really mean?

On your death bed or when Jesus returns, what ever you put your heart into, seeking after, you will finally get in full measure.  You won't have to seek after it any longer, because it will be yours forever.  If you seek after God then you will be with Him.  If you seek after some earthly thing, then that will be your god and you will stay on earth with it.

Before it becomes permanent, its time to decide who you will follow; our savior Jesus Christ, or some earthly thing that will cause you to miss your opportunity of going to Heaven.

Insincerity

When we are insincere we don't care about others feelings or others beliefs, desires, or requests, it simply means we are being selfish.  We can't say that we didn't know because that would be simple ignorance to the fact.  The true insincerity come when we tell ourself and others that we didn't know, but deep down we know fully well and are lying to ourself in order to cover the incongruency.

So insincerity is really a different problem than what we think it is.  It's a problem with our greed for self gratification.   A way for us to feel good at the expense of others and not owning up to the fact that we made a mistake.  Most addicts believe they don't have a problem, so it must someone else's fault.

This is a trademark of a life with an addiction, no ownership for our actions, and no belief in ourself.

Endurance

It sometimes seems as though there is no relief from our past, no way to repair the damage we have done to ourselves and others.  Or maybe you have been the victim of abuse and can find no peace.  This is the time when faith in God is our only recourse, the only way we can find peace from the guilt, shame, isolation, and condemnation.

It's good to know just how patient God really is:

1 Peter 3:19, After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.  In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.  It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ...

It's good to know that there is a way to calm our conscience and become an upstanding member of society free from guilt, addiction and destructive behaviors.   It builds endurance in our thinking when we resist the temptations to isolate, use, commit crime, or abuse.

All these blessings are available to us but the choice always remains in our hands.

Complications

There's an old saying that if things are progressing with no problems, then you have forgotten to address something.  Staying focused allows us to pick up on the details in anything we are doing.  When we allow other things to consume our thoughts that don't pertain to the task at hand, then we start overlooking details.  The more we press in to a task the greater the reward.

Our relationship with God is no different!  The more time we spend seeking Him, and the less time we spend on distractions, then the greater the reward.  But let me rephrase that: "The more time we spend avoiding distractions, the greater the focus is on God."

2 Chronicles 16:9  For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

Strengthening our connection with God by reducing distractions doesn't reduce complications, but makes our reaction to the complications a "reward for sacrifice".

Testing

Testing is a way to insure that what people say about themselves is accurate.  The Bible tells us to bring everything to God in prayer and to test it.  So if God tells us to do that, then He would do it himself.

Those times when it seems like God is not there, when you feel you are praying into an empty void, when your prayers go unanswered, and when things go on around you that you can't understand, God maybe wants to see which side you will choose.  Will you turn to God, or to a fear ridden, self serving, bitter, prideful, and envious person.

2 Chronicles 32:31 . . . . God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

Stumbling is us simply trying to walk on our own.  Its not a bad thing because you learn what's truly in your heart and where not to go, but it still hurts.

When we actually walk the talk it proves 2 things, that we are what we say we are, and that we are not swayed by the trappings of this world.

Religious

Setting a standard for others, but exempting our self when we in a different crowd.  In the Bible it's called hypocrisy!  When we are very religious when around the religious crowd but our real self when around the one's we don't go to church with.  Think back to when you lied to your parent or guardian thinking that you convinced them you weren't bad in a certain situation.  When you put on a glossier than real attitude around someone in authority.  When you swear, think poorly of someone, gossip, or verbally cheat someone.  Abuse others!!  Our tongue is a deadly weapon.

James 1:26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

This verse scared me when I first read it, or maybe it was the 5th time and it finally sunk in.  I believe God will ask us to clarify each and every instance of deception in our life.  So doing what this verse says right now will reduce the surprise we will have later.  And we won't wind up using our tongue as a weapon on our self!!
