Visuals

Imagine if every word we said turned into large block letters over our head for the whole world to see.  Or if our concealed emotions did the same!  How on earth would we be able to even think?

Every cursed word, slanderous thought, mean action, every lie, deception, scowl, and grumble fully visible above our head.  Ill thoughts about people we don't have courage to say anything to, disrespectful treatment of the poor, harsh treatment of the disabled, even snarky comments to innocent passersby.

We may not be able to see those things right now but we certainly do wear those emotions on our faces and in our actions. It would either help us to be more honest or incredibly more crafty.

Proverbs 3:27 "Do not withhold good from those who need it, when you have the ability to help".

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices allows us to see images of ourself that we would normally not see on our own, which helps us to change for the better.

Avoidance

It's a behavior that is clinically catalogued.  They say it is running away from our problems, skirting the inevitable, pretending a problem is not really there.    Never speaking of what we think of as taboo topics.  Not dealing with our problems.  What causes that is fear mostly. That's the earthly interpretation.

But theres another avoidance and that is staying away from what you know is bad for you, evil things in your life, places and people who can trip you up, activities that can alter your sound thinking.  If you have a desire to live a Godly life then avoidance of these things is most important, because our lives depend on our sound judgement of these things.

Proverbs 4:27 "Don’t deviate a bit to the right or the left; turn your feet away from evil." CEB

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices give us concrete reasons to stop looking at and seeking evil things.

Rich or Poor

Our view of things is always right, its the opposing individuals that are in conflict with us, complicating the fact that whether we are rich or poor emotionally, spiritually, or financially.  The rich find groups that meet their needs and the poor find groups that meet their needs, problem being they are always the same as us. No growth and no change.

We always look in the same places for the same things and rarely find it.  We need to look in new places for different things than we are used to and we are guaranteed to find something.  A person in their own state of poor needs to change one thing, to reach out and empathize with others less fortunate.  Rich or poor, each have their own challenges that are tough to break out of.

Self-Help Groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices open our eyes to the "wise ways of Bible teaching",  Proverbs 21:11..."by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge".
Look for somebody who is wise and then emulate them and you will become rich in spirit.

Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is when you cheerfully greet someone, but grumble behind their back.  When you play tricks on them but don't tell them.  It's when you have a problem with someone but don't talk to them about it.  You take things they say and misconstrue their words to others. When you lie to better yourself in some way.  It's when you claim to be righteous but you do the opposite.  Doing things to people behind their back and say "it's for their own good".  It's when you steal things and claim innocence.  Not telling someone about secrets told about them. It's saying one thing but acting differently.  It's when you secretly get even with someone.  When you don't tell the truth!!

In reality, hypocrisy is the bane of a healthy society.  So to be short and to the point, I guess hypocrisy is just being a liar!  Something we all abhor.

Self help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices teach us that the "truth in everything" is the only way to go.

Rejection

Being rejected in relationships, by people in general, or even seeking a job is a very difficult thing to endure.  It erodes your confidence, gives you the impression your skills are invalid, wears away at your happiness, & dwindles your own view of yourself. When that happens, one of 2 things manifest; you give up completely or the animal core survival instinct kicks in. Either way, strange behaviors emerge, laws you respected fall away, and places & people become objects of opportunity.

Sometimes we are just missing one key piece of information that could change it all.  Sometimes we have to choose a direction rather than floating in despair.  Sometimes we need to try something new & put our faith to work.

The Bible says; "God helps those who help themselves", but the biggest difficulty in that is where to look!  That's where prayer comes in handy.  The Bible also says; "Ask in Jesus name and you will receive"!

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices teach us that He will give us what we need, but maybe not what we want, but keep asking!

Poverty

Like carbon monoxide, poverty is a silent killer!!  The focus is mostly around money, but little is said about poverty of the spirit.  Looking down on yourself and thinking you are not entitled to a prosperous future is part of the continuing cycle that encircles financial poverty. A vicious cycle that can lead to thoughts and behaviors that can circle back to a negative image of ourself. This is where our weaknesses can slowly erode our confidence.

The important thing is to keep our eye on a long term goal in life and not pay attention to the bumps in the road.  Easier said than done when you are always focused on the bottom of the bumps, but striving for a goal will help take our focus off the negative and place it on the positive.

Self-Help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices help to teach us that for the most part we really are able, it's sometimes we may not be willing to change.  Or even know that we can change.

No Regrets

It's very hard to get to the place where you have dealt with all the dark secrets, misgivings, and turmoil in your life.  It's a place where we don't feel as bad about the things we have done or been done to us.
It's not that we don't care what we have done, but more becoming a pleasure to talk about our darkness's to others, so that they can find light in their life because we were willing to share with them our hurts, weaknesses, and strange behaviors.  They grow because we were open.  They understand because we were honest. They will emulate us because we are finally in the right.

God really, really likes that.  Those are the works that matter, so much so that the Bible tells us that God will reward us 10 times over for the small things, and 100 times over for the big things.

Self-help groups like Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices guide us to making the right decisions, which we can pass on to others.
