You are Soooo. . . different

What makes us different from each other?  Why do you do the things you do, good or bad?  Why do I find fault in that?  Why do you object to me and my ways?

Well . . . we are taught most of these things from an early age before we can remember.  Some of them come from our upbringing in adolescence.  Some ideas are absorbed because we are adolescent-like in our adult life.  We even learn valuable life lessons in our senior years.

I guess if we are taught the ways of God from beginning to end, then we have a head start, don't we?

Courses like Life Healing Choices & Celebrate Recovery walk us through the life courses that God gives us, only catch is that you must attend and be interested to learn it!

Playing catch up

Life changes and we must get with the times. Trends come and go and we follow suit.  Old good actions change because of current trends. We are told that respectable ways of life are now wrong.  Then we are told that deplorable ways are the right thing to do. Its confusing especially when you don't know whats right to begin with, or for that matter what's right for this day and age.

Even our habits change usually for the worst.  But what doesn't change is our own attitude towards personal habits. If we don't think about changing then we will stay the same, gradually get worse in our thought patterns.  If we do change our habits then we are free from the bondage that kept us.  But we have to make sure that we are not just changing to suit today's twisted ideals, but rather be close to what God wants instead.  Celebrate Recovery & Life's Healing Choices help us to see what God really wants from us.

Who Are You?

When we are unknown, or unwanted, or unsure!  People won't take the time to know us, or people who do know us but now don't want to, are a large portion of our distraught feelings.  This of course fuels how we feel about ourselves in a negative way.  So we act out to get attention or we reward ourselves with bad habits for being who we are at this point in time.  If we can't have good company then we can create our own version of what company would represent.  Nuisance behavior can be a friend when no one else cares.  Illicit affairs, pornography, substance abuse, or destructive behavior can somewhat fill the hole in our lives.  At this point we need to step back and look at who we are becoming.

Who we are in God's eyes is the innocent lonely child inside looking for the arms to embrace us and say, "it's all going to be ok".  Little do we know that God keep trying to do that but we are always looking in all the wrong places.  Celebrate Recovery and Life's Healing Choices help us to see that.

Trust v/s Skepticism

There's a point when you have finally had enough of trying to hold your entire life together, when it's ripping at the seams, when your disgusted with yourself, when you wish you could just be the real you.  Facades are a lot of work, but so is releasing all of the lifestyle you had to fight to build.  When you are ready to decide that it's time to stop what your doing, something else happens.  Skepticism!! You held your life together for as long as you did and you did it your way and it was working, at least until you crashed.  Why would releasing all of that to your Lord be any better than what you did all on your own?

All we really have to do to answer that is to look at Jesus on the cross and try to figure out why He did that for us!  Once we start to understand the reason behind that then the skepticism will start to fade.  Trust v/s skepticism.

Finding Purpose

Do you have any idea why you are on this planet?

Everyone in this world has a purpose for being here. God planned it that way.  We aren't here to be punished for being bad or rewarded for being exceptional in our past life.  This is our only trip.  God gave us a myriad of opportunities to help people, some are obvious but most are not.  It's as simple as when we give a cool drink of water to someone who needs it that the cycle starts.  That person will do something good to a couple of other people in need.  And so on.  All because you decided to do it to begin with!

The greatest words a person in need could hear is "hey I'm here for you", whatever that turns out to be.  So what is the purpose of all this?  To show us what Jesus did for us.  That's how it all started.

No One Can Help You

There has never been a more false statement ever made.  It is so untrue to assume that.  But wait a minute, sometimes people do things to help us ease our plight, be an example for us, try to teach us better ways, give of their time so we can have a better alternative than the slippery slope we are on in our own thinking.  Sometimes they secretly pray for us, give us things without us knowing, or give gifts because they felt led by the Spirit.  Sometimes they weep for our misgiving ways and sacrifice things in their life for our benefit.

None of those things mean anything if we refuse to stop giving in to our weaknesses.  Those acts of extreme kindness will wither away because we find more importance in our sinful choices than acknowledging their generous ways.  God will reward each of us for our acts.

Waiting for Justice

Waiting for justice is probably the hardest thing to endure.  When you are downtrodden or suppressed, when people think all kinds of things about you that just aren't true, when they pass judgement on you without allowing you to give a defense, or when they gossip about you. It's harsh, very unfair indeed!!

Not according to God though!!  He says rejoice in that because you are on the right track.  God is telling us to accept people as they are;"good or bad".  We can't change them so we may as well get used to them.  However we can influence them with our "good behavior" and show them their behavior really isn't that important in the long run.  This helps us to avoid pitfalls that drive us to unacceptable behavior in ourselves!!
