Giving Up

Can mean a lot of things! Giving up on your dreams, people, your diet, hobbies, etc.  But it can also mean that you are giving up on life...or even God!  Getting to that point a sense of hopelessness can begin to take hold.  When you have no hope addiction can set in.  We can lower our standards, be easily led into debaucherous and heinous lifestyles.  We can be led away from anything safe and put ourselves on the edge.....

2 Chronicles 15:7, "But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

Every single thing we do to help others in the name of God, we will be rewarded; the Bible says 10 times, 50 times, 100 times more.  The key is putting others first and by doing that we don't have time to focus on our hopelessness.

Negativity

Its so easy to see ourself as the standard of excellence.  Finding the middle ground of acceptable behaviour sometimes takes a lifetime of trial and error. The easiest action to fall into is negativity. It's either learned behaviour or we just don't see the blessings in any situation.  We can't see past our own life and pain.  Negativity is an addiction!! A very lonely dark place to exist, and nobody wants to be around you.

1Peter 3:9  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

I believe the Old Testament says it this way: "an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth".  Or the 21st century version: "Pay it forward".  In other words we will receive what we give. If we bless others instead of cursing, then it will come back around to us as a blessing when we least expect it.

Negativity keeps us trapped in a cycle of spewing our hidden pain on others, without revealing the real problem!!  So yes, negativity is a very real addiction.

Weary

We can become weary when we don't see results from what we are seeking.  If we only have a mediocre faith then time has a way of loosening our grasp on things.  When you believe in something strong enough then time doesn't matter.

There are times when we don't see the saving grace of Christ.  When we don't know its there, when we believe we are unworthy of it, or when we don't know that we can grab hold of it for ourselves.  God's grace is always there, but its up to us to take hold of it.  If our thinking has been jaded by some twisted doctrine, or others beating us down, then we can alienate ourself.  Addiction is like that!

When we study the Word of God time doesn't matter, because we know that in the end we will receive what we put into it, & if we focus on God then the addiction doesn't matter. Because you're reading this then the following verse applies to you:

Ephesians 1:11  "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,"

So our options are simple: seek God with all your heart & He will give you the desires of your heart, or keep doing what you're doing.

Building Up

Its hard to find people that will actually spend the time to build you up.  Family and friends are one thing if you're lucky enough to have those types of people in your life, but in the outside world of our job, business, passersby, political, and world events it's very different.  Just look at the state of wars around the world, genocide, and general aggression.  Some people try to blame it on religion but its not that, its a natural state of decay from the beginnings of mankind.

I guess that's why people look down on Christianity because at its core the difference is staggering from the way the world thinks.

Ephesians 4:29  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

For thousands of years its been "Only one of us will be victorious".  But why??  The process of surrendering ourself to an unseen God goes against all military common sense.  The problem is; trying to get the whole world to think like that, when we've been trained to destroy.

Cowering

When we are unsure of ourself, we lack confidence and are fearful of failure or blame.  It's a crippling way of life!!  It's like we are frozen in time when occurrences happen around us.  We cringe and have to make a hasty retreat.

In this state of mind it happens to be a very good way to pick up an addiction.  We just can't cope with what we see as the frightening reality of life, so we tend to drink, medicate, or turn to habits , or relationships that are just not good for us, one's that get us in trouble.  We can be complacent when all hell is breaking loose around us, which deepens our plight.  We are focusing on foolishness when our thoughts should be on God himself;

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,  and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

If all you would do is focus on God, then how would you have any time to focus on your fears.  Besides 90% of all fears we have, never happen, but 100% of what we do for God is remembered for later!!

Idols

There'll come a time when the things you seek after in life will become permanent in your life.  We chase after objects, money, feelings, people, and beliefs all our lives and struggle to get them.  These are our idols, our gods.  The same ones God talks about when he says in Exodus 20, in the 1st commandment; "You shall have no other Gods before me".  So what does that really mean?

On your death bed or when Jesus returns, what ever you put your heart into, seeking after, you will finally get in full measure.  You won't have to seek after it any longer, because it will be yours forever.  If you seek after God then you will be with Him.  If you seek after some earthly thing, then that will be your god and you will stay on earth with it.

Before it becomes permanent, its time to decide who you will follow; our savior Jesus Christ, or some earthly thing that will cause you to miss your opportunity of going to Heaven.

Insincerity

When we are insincere we don't care about others feelings or others beliefs, desires, or requests, it simply means we are being selfish.  We can't say that we didn't know because that would be simple ignorance to the fact.  The true insincerity come when we tell ourself and others that we didn't know, but deep down we know fully well and are lying to ourself in order to cover the incongruency.

So insincerity is really a different problem than what we think it is.  It's a problem with our greed for self gratification.   A way for us to feel good at the expense of others and not owning up to the fact that we made a mistake.  Most addicts believe they don't have a problem, so it must someone else's fault.

This is a trademark of a life with an addiction, no ownership for our actions, and no belief in ourself.
