Laws of God

A lot of people hate or mock the 10 Commandments in the Bible, because it forces them to give up some of their fun.  They don't realize what they represent.  If there were no commandments then no one would know they are doing wrong.  If you were screwing up royally and about to get in trouble, would you appreciate someone telling you that you were making a mistake, so you could correct your error?  But...people don't like to hear they are wrong, but they do like it when you join them and give up your morals.

Job 34:32 "Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do so again."

Addictive and compulsive behaviors have another layer to that, we need peoples acceptance more than  following God's word, and that's where the disconnect is.  We try to repair the damage with substances and misdeeds instead of seeing the real problem.

Grace

Grace is the act of releasing someone from judgement.  It's the motion of turning the other cheek, forgiving those that have hurt us, and giving others a another chance.  When we don't do any of those things then that person is held in bondage.  Jesus said in Matthew 18:18, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven". What that means is how we judge others, the same judgement will be used on us.

The judgements and stumbling blocks we create for others will undoubtedly come back to haunt us based on the above statement.

Romans 14:13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

 Isn't life difficult enough?

Trapped

An addiction is anything more than drugs and alcohol. Those are just symptoms of a much greater concern.  First off, you are trapped in a line of thinking that keeps you from realizing that you are ultimately in full control of your life. Secondly, you are blinded from seeing the potential in yourself. And thirdly, you are tricked into believing that there is nothing better than what you are trapped in.

But there is a fourth aspect to any addiction, that is the sin we are committing against God.  You see every addiction is the result of a battle of "Spirits & Principalities".  We are only pawns being used to get to God. It's really not our fight but we let be ours and take it very personally.  We can trap our self or be trapped by other people who do NOT have our best interests at heart.

1 Kings 8:50 And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their captors to show them mercy;

Once we realize that we are being used by the evil one, then that addiction becomes a stupid waste of time and we are no longer trapped.

Shame

If we only knew what we were doing every time we commit a sin.  If we could only understand that the things we do in the midst of an addiction, we will have to deal with at a later date. First it's stubbornness or total indifference, but later in life it is shame and regret.  If only we could turn back the hands of time and not do the things we now find shameful and regretful.

Romans 6:21, What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

For every action there is a reaction.  This is true in physics as well as social settings, and is sooo true with the Laws of God that we break when we are young and then find we have to clean up after ourself later in life.

Everyone receives advice, but few profit from it, and the Bible is full of valuable advice.

Transparency

Sometimes it means we are so unimportant that it makes us feel like people see through us to the more interesting & important things we are blocking from their view.

Sometimes its a slam against us with the accusation that we have no substance or realism to us or that we are worthless.

Sometimes it means that we are too open and too honest that we tell everything and neglect to protect ourself.

But you know, when you take the focus off our yourself and genuinely look for interesting things in others (no matter who they are), then being transparent on purpose really is rewarding, especially when you get to see them lite up because of your interest in them.

Prov 31:9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

You never know who is "Poor in spirit & needing affirmation".

Wronged

When we are wronged we can feel it to the core of our being with great emotional and psychological pain.  A turmoil of undisturbed emotions can erupt if we haven't dealt with them. Complacency and denial can help us cover over those painful happenings, unfortunately that usually opens us up to addiction.

Numbers 5-6; “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord is guilty and must confess the sin they have committed.

The Bible is quite clear when is says that we are to deal with our junk.  We're supposed to take ownership for our own and hold others accountable for theirs.  It's interesting that it says "unfaithful to the Lord".  I guess that just confirms that whatever we do to others, we are also doing it to our maker.  Oops!!

As we are able to read this, it means that we still have time to deal with our junk!!

False Teacher

Addictive behaviour always gives away a persons deepest desires!  Sometimes people claim to be Christian but the debris they hang onto pollutes whatever they try to convey.  Their mouth says one thing, but their actions scream "compulsive disorder".  You usually can't tell them anything to try to correct them, you will only be hated for it.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to wait it out.

Prov 14:29 - Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Some however will thank you for your correction.  These are the ones who are finished with pride & self-preservation.  They have given their life to Christ and those things no longer control them.  That's how you tell one from the other.  Without knowing it, they have become a false teacher!!
